Light and vitamin d: a new hope for gum disease?
NCT ID NCT06700122
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding photodynamic therapy (a light-based treatment) and vitamin D to standard deep cleaning helps people with moderate gum disease. Twenty-four adults with stage II grade B periodontitis took part. The goal was to see if the combination improves gum attachment and reduces pocket depth better than cleaning alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Photodynamic therapy and vitamin D
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could improve gum health and reduce the need for more invasive procedures in people with periodontitis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 24 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and the benefits over standard care alone are uncertain.
