Which sepsis score best predicts outcomes in kids?

NCT ID NCT06539884

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at 25 children with suspected sepsis to compare the newer Phoenix score with older scoring systems (SIRS, pSOFA, PRISM III, PELOD). The goal was to see which score best predicts how long a child stays in the hospital or ICU, and risk of death. No treatments were given—researchers only observed and analyzed existing data.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the most accurate tool to predict how a child with sepsis will fare, potentially improving care decisions.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center observational study with only 25 patients, so results may not apply to all hospitals or children. It does not test any new treatment.
