First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a program called MI-CARE, where a pharmacist and a community health worker work together to help people with high blood pressure take their medications as prescribed. The team identifies and addresses personal, social, and cultural barriers to medication adherence. The study includes 217 African-American or Latino adults who take at least five chronic medications and have low adherence. The goal is to improve medication use and lower blood pressure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a practical, team-based approach to help people with high blood pressure better manage their medications and improve their health.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small study (217 participants) and focuses on specific populations (African-American and Latino adults). Results may not apply to everyone, and the intervention may not work as well in other settings.
