New injection aims to shrink skin tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT06014086
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a drug called PH-762, injected directly into skin tumors, for people with squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, or Merkel cell carcinoma. Participants receive four weekly injections into one tumor, then have it surgically removed about two weeks later. The main goal is to check safety and see how the body processes the drug, while also watching for tumor shrinkage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PH-762 (a drug that targets PD-1 to help the immune system fight cancer)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new way to shrink skin cancers before surgery, potentially improving outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1) trial with only 30 people, so it's mainly checking safety. It may not shrink tumors or work for everyone.
