Blood test guides smarter IBD treatment, study finds

NCT ID NCT05180175

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested a new approach for people newly diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Researchers used a blood test that measures proteins to identify patients at high risk for a worse disease course. These high-risk patients received stronger treatment early on (called top-down therapy) to see if it could improve remission rates and quality of life. The goal was to personalize treatment and avoid a one-size-fits-all approach.
