Could a tiny nerve zap ease chemo pain? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06162403
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This small study at MD Anderson tests whether peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) can reduce pain from chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Ten adults with chronic leg pain from past chemo will receive PNS, where thin wires are placed under the skin near nerves to deliver mild electrical pulses. The main goal is to check safety and see if pain improves.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
peripheral nerve stimulation (a device that sends electrical pulses through thin wires placed under the skin near nerves)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new way to manage chronic nerve pain after chemotherapy without relying solely on medications.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early feasibility study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure carries risks like infection or nerve damage, and it is not yet clear if it will provide lasting pain relief.
