This study investigates whether chronic gum disease (periodontitis) is linked to changes in the autonomic nervous system — the body's automatic 'wiring' that controls heart rate, digestion, and stress responses. Researchers will measure heart rate variability, a marker of nervous system balance, in 50 adults with and without periodontitis.
