Could a routine dental cleaning hold the key to faster sepsis diagnosis?

NCT ID NCT04565691

Summary

This study investigates whether a standard dental cleaning for gum disease can be used as a model to find better markers in the blood for detecting sepsis, a life-threatening infection. Researchers are studying 100 people with gum disease to see if bacteria released into the blood during cleaning can help identify new biomarkers. The goal is to find faster ways to diagnose sepsis, which could lead to quicker treatment and higher survival rates.
