New needle technique aims to ease hockey Players' hip pain
NCT ID NCT07527091
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a minimally invasive technique called percutaneous needle electrolysis can reduce groin pain and improve hip function in male ice hockey players aged 18 to 21. Six players will receive three ultrasound-guided treatments to the hip capsule. Researchers will measure pain, strength, and mobility before and after treatment, with a follow-up at 4 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
percutaneous needle electrolysis (a minimally invasive technique using a needle and mild electrical current to promote tissue healing)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, non-surgical option for managing groin pain in athletes, potentially reducing recovery time and improving hip function.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to others. The technique is still experimental for this specific use, and there is a risk of pain, infection, or no benefit.
