Can a massage gun with heat ease chronic back pain?
NCT ID NCT07346651
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding percussive massage (using a device like a massage gun) with a heat attachment to standard exercise and TENS therapy can reduce pain and disability in people with chronic low back pain. 48 adults aged 25-55 with pain lasting at least 3 months will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus 8 minutes of massage per session, 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in pain, mobility, quality of life, and fear of movement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
percussive massage therapy with heat attachment
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease chronic low back pain and improve daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 48 people over 2 weeks. Results may not apply to everyone, and the added benefit over exercise alone is uncertain.
