Could a simple nutritional drink boost recovery in pancreatic cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT06852014

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a special nutritional formula (Peptamen 1.6) helps malnourished pancreatic cancer patients recover better after a major surgery called pancreaticoduodenectomy. Twenty adults who are malnourished or at risk will receive two different nutritional drinks in a random order, and researchers will measure digestion, nutrient absorption, inflammation, and gut health. The goal is to find out which formula works best to improve recovery and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Peptamen 1.6 (a hydrolysed whey protein-based enteral formula)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward better nutritional support to improve recovery after pancreatic cancer surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-stage trial with only 20 people, so results may not apply widely. It tests nutritional supplements, not a cure, and success is uncertain.
