New hip pain block tested against standard ER treatment
NCT ID NCT05102760
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study compares two types of nerve blocks to treat pain from hip fractures in the emergency department. The standard fascia iliaca compartment (FIC) block is compared to the newer pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block. About 80 adults with isolated hip fractures and significant pain will receive one of the two blocks, and their pain scores will be measured at 30 and 60 minutes. The goal is to see if the PENG block provides pain relief that is as good as the FIC block.
