NCT ID NCT05852223

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing whether giving the drug pembrolizumab before thyroid surgery can help the immune system attack high-risk differentiated thyroid cancer. About 25 adults with a high chance of cancer returning will receive two doses of pembrolizumab before their thyroidectomy. Researchers will study immune cells in the tumor and blood to see how the drug works.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Pembrolizumab (a drug that helps the immune system fight cancer)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for high-risk thyroid cancer before surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 25 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not shrink tumors or could cause immune-related side effects.
