Simple pelvic floor therapy may ease radiation side effects for cervical cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07447895

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether pelvic floor physical therapy can reduce bowel and bladder control problems that often happen after radiation for cervical cancer. Twenty-eight women who are getting pelvic radiation will start physical therapy four weeks after finishing radiation. The therapy includes two sessions of muscle training and dilator use. The main goal is to see if fewer women have fecal incontinence three months after radiation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

pelvic floor physical therapy (procedure)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug way to reduce incontinence after pelvic radiation for cervical cancer.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase study with no comparison group, so results may not be conclusive. The therapy may not improve symptoms for everyone.
