Peer coaches boost opioid treatment in rural areas, study finds

Summary

This study looked at whether peer support specialists (recovery coaches) can help people with opioid use disorder begin and continue buprenorphine treatment. 90 adults from rural South Carolina mobile health clinics took part. Researchers compared their treatment progress to past patients who did not have a coach. The goal was to see if coaching improves medication initiation and retention over 3 months.
