Custom plastic membrane may boost bone growth for dental implants
NCT ID NCT07679451
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a custom-made PEEK membrane helps grow bone better than a standard PTFE membrane in people needing jawbone rebuilding before dental implants. Thirty adults with missing teeth and insufficient bone in the upper jaw will receive one of the two membranes during surgery. Researchers will measure bone gain and healing over 12 months using 3D scans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Custom-made polyether ether ketone (PEEK) membrane
- What this could lead to
- If PEEK membranes work better, they could improve bone growth for dental implants, making the procedure more predictable and reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both membranes are already used, so the difference may be small.
