Can a single shot ease Kids' pain after ACL surgery?
NCT ID NCT06559137
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a single injection of the numbing drug ropivacaine around nerves can reduce pain and the need for narcotic pain pills in children and teens after ACL knee surgery. About 160 participants aged 13 and older will either receive the nerve block or not during their operation. Researchers will track pain scores and pill use for one week after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ropivacaine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple way to better manage pain and reduce opioid use in children after ACL surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial, so results may not apply to all children. The nerve block may not provide significant pain relief beyond the first day.
