First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new program called PEACE, where specially trained paramedics visit people with COPD at home when their symptoms suddenly worsen. The goal is to treat flare-ups early and avoid trips to the emergency room. The study will enroll 50 adults with moderate to severe COPD to see if the program is practical and acceptable to patients and doctors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Paramedic home visit program (PEACE)
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could offer a faster, more convenient way to manage COPD flare-ups at home, potentially reducing emergency room visits and hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (50 people) focused on feasibility, not on proving the program works. It may not show clear benefits or be practical for widespread use.
