Summary

This study compares two blood tests—procalcitonin and serum zinc—to see which more accurately diagnoses ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in adult ICU patients. VAP is a common and serious infection in people on breathing machines, and early diagnosis is difficult. The trial will measure how well each test identifies the infection in 84 patients, using standard diagnostic criteria as the reference.
