Scientists hunt for biomarkers of PARP inhibitor resistance in BRCA breast cancer
NCT ID NCT05378204
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is collecting tumor and blood samples from 120 people with advanced, HER2-negative breast cancer who have a BRCA1/2 mutation. Researchers want to see if certain DNA repair proteins (POLQ, Shieldin complex, 53BP1) can predict whether a tumor will resist PARP inhibitor drugs like olaparib or talazoparib. The goal is to better understand resistance and potentially guide future treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors identify which patients are likely to resist PARP inhibitors, allowing more personalized treatment choices.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational biomarker study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to immediate clinical changes, and results may not apply to all patients.
