Could a simple painkiller prevent Post-Surgery confusion in seniors?

NCT ID NCT07235995

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving older patients (60+) a common pain reliever (paracetamol and mannitol injection) after non-cardiac surgery can lower their risk of postoperative delirium—a state of sudden confusion. About 1,092 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either this drug or a standard opioid (sufentanil) for pain. The goal is to see if the non-opioid option leads to less confusion and better recovery.
