New palatal plate may improve underbite correction in kids
NCT ID NCT07360509
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested two methods to correct underbite (skeletal Class III malocclusion) in 14 growing children. One group used a traditional tooth-borne anchor with a face mask, while the other used a palatal plate with a face mask. The goal was to see which approach better moves the upper jaw forward. Results could help dentists choose the best treatment for young patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
palatal plate and face mask (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a palatal plate is a better option than traditional braces for correcting underbite in children, potentially leading to more effective and stable results.
What could go wrong
This is a very small study (14 people) that is already completed, so results may not apply to everyone. The approach only works in growing children and does not cure the underlying skeletal issue.
