New pain scale aims to cut unnecessary opioids after surgery

NCT ID NCT07310953

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether a new pain scale that considers both pain level and ability to move can better guide when to give extra pain medicine after surgery. About 76 adults having scheduled surgery will be randomly assigned to receive rescue pain medicine based on either a standard pain scale or the new combined scale. The goal is to see if the new scale reduces unnecessary opioid use while still controlling pain effectively.
