NCT ID NCT07380503
First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 07, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding a drug called dexmedetomidine to a standard numbing medicine (bupivacaine) could improve pain control after weight loss surgery in severely obese patients. 78 adults having laparoscopic bariatric surgery received an ultrasound-guided nerve block with either bupivacaine alone or bupivacaine plus different doses of dexmedetomidine. The main goal was to see if the combination reduced the need for opioid painkillers in the first day after surgery.
