Pre-Root canal painkiller cuts Post-Procedure pain, study finds

NCT ID NCT07271654

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether taking a single dose of the painkiller diclofenac before a root canal can reduce pain afterward. 160 adults with tooth pain from irreversible pulpitis were split into two groups: one took 100 mg of diclofenac 30 minutes before the procedure, and the other did not. The results showed that those who took the medicine were much more likely to be pain-free at 6 and 12 hours after the root canal.
