New Tooth-Saving materials put to the test against standard treatment
NCT ID NCT07660549
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested three different materials used to treat severe, irreversible tooth inflammation. 72 adults with painful molars received a procedure where the damaged pulp was removed and covered with one of the materials. The goal was to see if newer materials (TheraCal LC and TheraCal PT) work as well as the standard material (MTA) for controlling pain and saving the tooth over 12 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Mineral trioxide aggregate, TheraCal LC, and TheraCal PT (dental pulp capping materials)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that newer, easier-to-use materials work as well as the standard material for saving teeth with severe pulp inflammation.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The materials are already in use, so no major new breakthrough is expected.
