Pre-surgery pain class may ease joint replacement recovery
NCT ID NCT07362589
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving patients a pain education booklet and video before knee or hip replacement surgery helps them feel less anxious and have less pain afterward. About 70 adults scheduled for elective joint replacement will be randomly assigned to receive the education or usual care. Researchers will measure pain, anxiety, painkiller use, and hospital stay length.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pain education booklet and video
What this could lead to
If it works, this simple education approach could help patients feel less anxious and experience less pain after joint replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is just education, so it may not meaningfully change pain or anxiety.
