New study aims to ease Post-Mastectomy pain without opioids
NCT ID NCT07659990
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of nerve blocks given before modified radical mastectomy to see which provides better pain relief and reduces the need for strong painkillers. Eighty women scheduled for surgery will receive one of the two blocks, and researchers will track their pain scores, opioid use, and recovery quality. The goal is to find a safer, more effective way to manage pain after breast cancer surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
nerve block procedure
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could mean less pain and fewer opioids after mastectomy, leading to a smoother recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 80 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and nerve blocks carry rare risks like infection or bleeding.
