New tool may predict who will suffer after achilles surgery

NCT ID NCT07558512

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looked at 489 patients who had Achilles tendon surgery to find out what factors lead to moderate-to-severe pain in the first 24 hours. Researchers created a prediction tool (nomogram) based on these risk factors. The goal is to help doctors identify high-risk patients and plan better pain control, but the tool needs further testing.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors identify patients at high risk for pain after Achilles surgery, allowing for better pain management planning.

What could go wrong

This is a retrospective study, meaning it looks back at past data. It cannot prove cause and effect, and the prediction tool needs to be tested in new patients before it can be used widely.
