Scientists dive deep to unlock secrets of oxygen poisoning

NCT ID NCT05761756

Summary

This study aims to understand why and how scuba divers can experience oxygen toxicity, a dangerous condition from breathing high oxygen levels under pressure. Researchers will test how factors like breathing muscle training, sleep loss, common medications, and carbon dioxide exposure affect this risk in 62 healthy, non-smoking adults. Participants will exercise on stationary bikes both on land and underwater while researchers measure their breathing, brain blood flow, and body chemistry.
