New oxygen monitor could prevent dangerous drops during surgery

NCT ID NCT07415161

First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests a new monitoring tool called Oxygen Reserve Index (ORi) that may give doctors an earlier warning when a patient's oxygen levels start to drop during throat surgery. 80 adults having planned throat surgery under general anesthesia will be randomly assigned to standard monitoring or ORi-guided monitoring. The goal is to see if ORi helps prevent dangerously low oxygen levels better than current methods.
