Smart oxygen monitor may protect cells during rhinoplasty
NCT ID NCT07158073
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether using a device called the Oxygen Reserve Index (ORI) to guide oxygen levels during rhinoplasty (nose job) surgery could reduce oxidative stress, a type of cell damage. Sixty healthy adults having rhinoplasty were split into two groups: one received standard oxygen levels, while the other had oxygen adjusted based on ORI readings. Researchers measured blood markers of oxidative stress to see if the ORI-guided approach was gentler on the body.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Oxygen Reserve Index (ORI) monitoring device
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help reduce oxidative stress during surgeries, potentially improving recovery and reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial focused on a specific surgery. The results may not apply to other procedures or patient groups, and the benefits for long-term outcomes are not yet proven.
