NCT ID NCT07186634
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether giving patients 30%, 50%, or 80% oxygen during and right after major surgery can reduce wound infections and other complications. About 7,800 adults having surgery lasting at least 2 hours will take part. The goal is to find the best oxygen level to improve recovery and reduce infections.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oxygen
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that giving more oxygen during surgery lowers the chance of wound infections and helps patients recover faster.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 4 study, but results may not apply to all surgeries. Higher oxygen might also increase lung complications, so the risks are being carefully weighed.
