Surgery's hidden toll: which ovarian cysts pose greater risk to fertility?
NCT ID NCT07686783
First seen Jul 07, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares how laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts affects ovarian reserve—a key measure of fertility potential—in women with endometriotic cysts versus non-endometriotic cysts. Researchers will measure levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) before and three months after surgery in 60 women aged 18-45 with cysts 6-15 cm in size. The goal is to understand whether the type of cyst influences the degree of ovarian function loss after surgery, which could help guide future treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help doctors predict which women are at higher risk of reduced ovarian function after cyst removal, guiding more personalized surgical decisions.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study with a small group of 60 women, so results may not apply to everyone. It measures hormone levels, not actual pregnancy or fertility outcomes.
