Laser zaps endometriosis cysts: could this spare fertility?
NCT ID NCT07635199
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study investigates how well a dual-wavelength diode laser can destroy endometriotic tissue inside ovarian cysts (endometriomas). Researchers will apply the laser to cyst walls removed during surgery and examine the tissue under a microscope to see if all abnormal cells are killed and how deeply the laser penetrates. The goal is to gather data that could lead to a surgical technique that preserves ovarian function better than current methods. About 30 women having laparoscopic surgery for ovarian endometriomas will provide tissue samples for this ex vivo analysis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dual-wavelength diode laser (LEONARDO® DUAL 45)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help refine laser settings for ovarian endometrioma surgery, potentially preserving fertility better than standard cyst removal.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study on surgically removed tissue, not a treatment trial. Results may not translate to live surgery or improve patient outcomes.
