Summary
This project adapted a proven program that reduces pneumonia in nursing home residents with dementia for use in assisted living. The program focuses on daily mouth care to lower harmful bacteria that can lead to pneumonia. Researchers worked with 1,405 residents and trained staff using community dental hygienists. The goal was to improve oral hygiene and reduce the risk of serious lung infections.
