New study could map best surgical path for colorectal liver metastases
NCT ID NCT07564284
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This observational study follows 200 patients with colorectal cancer whose liver tumors are found at the same time as the primary cancer. Researchers will compare one-step surgery (removing both tumors at once) versus staged operations (bowel first or liver first) to see which approach lets patients complete their full treatment plan. The goal is to create a treatment algorithm that improves outcomes, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a treatment algorithm that helps doctors choose the best surgical approach for patients with colorectal cancer and liver metastases.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not apply to all patients or hospitals.
