New eye infection tests could speed up diagnosis
NCT ID NCT05432336
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing advanced lab techniques, like genetic sequencing and multiplex PCR, to improve how doctors diagnose complex eye infections such as endophthalmitis and severe corneal abscesses. Researchers will compare the new methods to standard cultures to see if they find infections more often and faster. About 153 adults with suspected eye infections will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to faster and more accurate diagnosis of serious eye infections, helping doctors choose the right treatment sooner.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The new methods may not prove more accurate than current standard tests.
