Summary
This study tested a non-invasive optical device that uses light to detect and diagnose various mouth conditions, including gum disease, dry mouth, and oral cancer. Over 1,000 adults with and without oral lesions were imaged using techniques like fluorescence and spectroscopy. The goal was to develop a safer, faster way to screen for oral diseases without needing a biopsy.
