Eye test may spot brain fog after heart surgery
NCT ID NCT07249047
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring the optic nerve sheath (the protective layer around the nerve at the back of the eye) using ultrasound can help predict delirium—sudden confusion or agitation—after heart surgery. Delirium is common in older adults after surgery and can slow recovery. Researchers will measure the optic nerve sheath in 300 adults before and after cardiac surgery and compare it to standard delirium screening tools to see if there is a link.
