New anesthesia combo may spare kids from opioid side effects

NCT ID NCT06326983

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study compared two pain management plans for 62 children having tonsil surgery. One plan used a standard opioid (morphine), while the other used a non-opioid drug (dexmedetomidine) to control pain. The goal was to see if the opioid-sparing approach works just as well while reducing side effects like nausea and agitation. Results could help make recovery safer and more comfortable for kids.
