Epidural or IV? study seeks best way to deliver opioids after major abdominal surgery

NCT ID NCT06559969

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at two common ways to give extra pain medicine (opioids) to people recovering from open abdominal surgery. All participants will have an epidural for local anesthetic. The question is whether adding opioids to the epidural or giving them through an IV leads to better recovery and fewer side effects. About 80 adults aged 18 to 85 who are scheduled for this type of surgery will take part.
