First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a structured program to help children and teens with autism, developmental delays, or intellectual disabilities cooperate during eye exams. Twenty participants attended six training sessions that used practice in a mock clinic, rewards like snacks or toys, and other behavioral strategies. The goal was to see if the program improved their ability to complete eye tests and get accurate vision measurements.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
contextual, behavioral, and cognitive-based training program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help children with autism or developmental delays get better eye care by making exams less stressful and more successful.
What could go wrong
This was a very small study (20 people) with no control group, so results may not apply to everyone. The program may not work in all clinic settings.
