First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests an online program for parents of children with hearing loss who have recently had cochlear implant surgery. The program combines education about implant care and communication strategies with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help parents manage stress, anxiety, and depression. Sixty-four Mandarin-speaking caregivers will be randomly assigned to the program plus usual care or usual care alone, and researchers will measure changes in parental stress and mood three months later.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an accessible way to improve mental health and parenting skills for caregivers of children with cochlear implants.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (64 participants) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. The program may not reduce stress or depression significantly, and results may not apply to all caregivers.
