Lung cancer treatment in hours, not weeks: new One-Day radiation trial shows promise

NCT ID NCT06236516

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested a new way to deliver high-dose radiation to small lung tumors in just one day, instead of the usual two to three weeks. Ten patients with early-stage lung cancer or limited lung metastases received a single session of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) using advanced imaging and adaptive planning, skipping the separate simulation appointment. The goal was to see if this faster, all-in-one approach is feasible and could make treatment more accessible for patients who live far from cancer centers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

One-fraction stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) using HyperSight and Ethos devices

What this could lead to

If successful, this workflow could allow patients with small lung tumors to receive curative radiation in a single day, greatly reducing travel and wait times.

What could go wrong

This is a very small feasibility study with only 10 participants. The approach may not work for all tumor types or locations, and technical issues could prevent completion.
