Chicken and eggs as nutrient boosters? new study tests fortified poultry

NCT ID NCT05248737

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether healthy adults can improve their omega-3 or vitamin D levels by eating chicken or eggs from chickens fed special diets. About 84 healthy, non-smoking adults aged 18-35 will eat these fortified foods or take supplements. The goal is to measure changes in blood nutrient levels, not to treat any disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DHA/EPA fortified chicken, 25(OH)D fortified chicken/eggs, and dietary supplements

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that eating fortified chicken or eggs is a practical way to improve omega-3 or vitamin D levels in healthy people.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study in healthy adults, so results may not apply to the general population or those with health conditions. It only measures nutrient levels, not health outcomes.
