Fish oil may counteract diabetes risk linked to low bad cholesterol

NCT ID NCT04485871

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at why having low 'bad' cholesterol might actually increase the risk of type 2 diabetes. Researchers think that when LDL enters fat tissue, it causes problems that lead to diabetes. They will test if taking omega-3 fish oil for 6 months can reverse these problems in 48 adults aged 45-74 with normal cholesterol and excess weight.
