New radioactive antibody treatment shows promise for childhood brain cancer

NCT ID NCT04743661

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This Phase 2 trial tests a new approach for children whose medulloblastoma or ependymoma has come back. It combines a radioactive antibody (omburtamab) delivered directly into the brain's fluid spaces with standard chemotherapy drugs. The goal is to see if this combination can help children live longer without the cancer growing again. The study includes 62 children and is currently active but no longer recruiting.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

omburtamab (a radioactive antibody) given into the brain's fluid spaces, plus irinotecan, temozolomide, and bevacizumab chemotherapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for children with recurrent brain tumors that have come back after standard therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 2 trial with only 62 participants, so results are preliminary. The treatment involves radiation and chemotherapy, which can cause serious side effects. It may not work for all patients.
