New hope for AML patients who fail venetoclax?

NCT ID NCT07471841

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests the drug olutasidenib, with or without azacitidine, in 25 adults with a specific type of acute myeloid leukemia (IDH1-mutated) that has returned or not responded after venetoclax treatment. The goal is to see if the cancer can be brought into remission. Participants take olutasidenib pills twice daily; after three cycles, azacitidine may be added if remission is not achieved.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Olutasidenib (with optional azacitidine)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for AML patients whose cancer has stopped responding to venetoclax.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase pilot study with only 25 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Adding azacitidine is optional and not standardized, which could affect outcomes.
