New study aims to cut radiation planning from weeks to same day
NCT ID NCT07079098
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a faster, simulation-free approach to stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is safe and feasible for people whose cancer has spread to up to five spots (oligometastatic disease). Instead of requiring a separate planning CT scan and days of preparation, doctors will use the patient's existing diagnostic scans to plan treatment immediately. The study will enroll 15 adults to see if this streamlined workflow can deliver effective radiation in a single session.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) delivered via a simulation-free workflow using existing diagnostic scans
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could allow people with oligometastatic cancer to receive SBRT treatment much faster, potentially improving coordination of care and quicker symptom relief.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-phase trial with only 15 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The simulation-free method may not be safe or effective for all tumor locations or types.
